Title:  Technical Author - Service & Diagnostic Information

Summary

This position is responsible for the development and production of all aspects of Technical information required for service, diagnostic information within the automotive industry. These aspects include, but are not limited to: removal and installation procedures, disassembly and assembly procedures, specification tables, cautions, warnings, creation of illustration go-by’s, module system diagnostics (DTC’s), symptom based diagnostics, and other related electrical service information. Development may be in multiple formats and may involve interface with multiple clients both internal and external. Regardless of deliverable or style, this position must ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks which maintain compliance to both corporate and customer standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Accurately develop system specific diagnostics, service and electrical service procedures using client supplied information
  • Follow current diagnostic and service development procedures and processes as necessary to ensure deliverable meets or exceeds client expectations
  • Document open issues and follow through on resolution and inclusion
  • Complete assignments to support existing business and new business, including new products and services
  • Use of procedures, records, tools, equipment, facilities, others as appropriate
  • Identify obstacles that may occur during production, respond to changing priorities and adjust accordingly
  • Provide updated project information relating to project schedules, and project changes
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships with the engineering and service organizations
  • Follow-up on all client feedback
  • Ensure all client revisions/discussions are incorporated and distributed to the teams for action
  • Identify areas for operational improvement through process or technology adjustments
  • Develop all related types of service and diagnostic information

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS or equivalent professional experience in mechanical and electrical diagnostic content development preferred
  • Approximately 5 years of direct service & diagnostic manual development required
  • Industry Standard certifications preferred
  • In-depth OEM knowledge a plus

 

Skills Required

  • Experienced in developing diagnostic & service information for Dealer Technicians and the automotive service industry
  • Solid understanding of SGML/XML authoring tools, Adept Style Editors, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook or equivalent email package
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop or other similar software
  • Experience working collaboratively with client service teams in fast paced environment
  • Ability to dialog freely with internal teams about projects to ensure solutions are well planned
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and thorough approach to follow-through on all tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to ensure efficiencies
  • Ability to multitask and interface with many personalities
  • Enthusiastic and well organized. Successful at maintaining schedules and raising issues as necessary
  • Envision, Plan and Manage time/workload to ensure successful delivery of projects
  • Ability to work with domestic and international business cultures

 

Travel
