Title:  Senior Technical Author

Summary

This position is responsible as the Senior Author in development and production of all aspects of technical related information, within the transportation industry.  This includes developing and being the voice of direction for technical information and for the authors during development.  These aspects include, but are not limited to; removal and installation procedures, disassembly and assembly procedures, specification tables, cautions, warnings, creation of illustration go-by’s, symptom based diagnostics, and other related service, diagnostic and or wiring information. In this position you will also be the critical decision maker, researcher, problem solver and overall direction surrounding all aspects of technical content.  Development may be in multiple formats and may involve interface with multiple clients both internal and external.  Regardless of deliverable or style, this position must ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks which maintain compliance to both corporate and customer standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead/Supervise direct employees responsible for researching, developing and authoring service information
  • Oversee authors to accurately develop system specific information using client supplied information
  • Follow current content development procedures and processes to ensure deliverable meets or exceeds client expectations
  • Document open issues and follow through on resolution and inclusion
  • Complete assignments to support existing business and new business; including new products and services
  • Use of procedures, records, tools, equipment, facilities, others as appropriate
  • Use of Content Development Work Instructions, Training and Records according to the corporate quality system
  • Identify obstacles that may occur during production, respond to changing priorities and adjust accordingly
  • Provide updated project information relating to project schedules, and project changes
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships with the engineering and service organizations
  • Follow-up on all client feedback. Ensure all client revisions/discussions are incorporated and distributed to the teams for action
  • Identify areas for operational improvement through process or technology adjustments
  • Manage the Development all related types of technical information

Skills Required

  • Experience in leading direct employees, making decisions, problem solving and resolving day to day production development issues/road blocks
  • Experienced in developing diagnostic & service information for Dealer Technicians and the automotive service industry.
  • Solid understanding of SGML/XML authoring tools, Adept Style Editors, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook or equivalent email package.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop or other similar software.
  • Experience working collaboratively with client service teams in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to dialog freely with internal teams about projects to ensure solutions are well planned
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and thorough approach to follow-through on all tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to ensure efficiencies
  • Ability to multitask and interface with many personalities
  • Enthusiastic and well organized. Successful at maintaining schedules and raising issues as necessary

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS or equivalent and/or approximately 5 years’ professional experience in content development preferred
  • Approximately 2 years of employee management preferred
  • Industry certification preferred
  • In-depth OEM knowledge a plus
