SUMMARY

The Editorial Lead is responsible for the quality, consistency, and style guides of all publications needed in an Automotive Owner’s information kit. They are responsible for proper grammar, clear and concise instructions, adherence to style, page layout, Index, and TOC completeness and graphical layout. They also manage and ensure all change notice, subject matter expert comments, and feedback are addressed in each version where applicable.  Lead a team of Editors to ensure all members are editing content to the latest/greatest standards.  Serve as an escalation point from the Editorial staff to upper management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Act on behalf of Quality Management as liaison between Authoring, TPS, Brand, and Tech Imaging departments for all matters related to quality control and improvement from an Editorial perspective.
  • Maintain Editorial documentation to promote adherence to quality standards, including checklists, style guides, audits, and tracking information.
  • Training Editors on latest/greatest editorial standards.
  • Participate in annual reviews of Editors identifying areas to improve on, clarifying objectives and acknowledgement of past performance.
  • Conduct monthly 1:1 meetings with Editors to address open concerns.
  • Manage and utilize metrics data to drive performance improvement across Editorial, TPS, and Authoring departments.
  • Research and communicate direction change initiatives to relevant departments to align direction across all interested parties.
  • Promote First Past Yield adherence and compliance for print ready delivery.
  • Provide backup support for Project Coordination responsibilities, including deliverables management, review assignment, and task meetings.
  • Perform general crosscheck (editorial review) for:
  • Consistency between "like" sections
  • Opportunities to improve readability
  • Spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors
  • Graphical review (clarity, placement, context (matches subject), orientation)
  • Application of standards outlined in the Editorial Quality Guide

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A strong background in management and composition practices through Adobe software or equivalent
  • Proficiency in the Adobe software suite
  • Experience with Technical Publications; understanding of automotive Owner’s Information publications requirements
  • Understanding and participation in change control and change management processes
  • Experience defining and improving common processes, procedures, and guidelines for use across all authoring activities as it relates to final composition and delivery
  • Experience updating process documentation supporting above activities including standard operation procedures
  • Experience seeking opportunities for improvement in order to develop new efficient procedures
  • Experience performing frequent inspections and audits of work processes
  • Experience maintaining and upholding company quality standards
