Title:  Author - Electrical Schematics/Carryover Author

This position is responsible for model year updates to all aspects of global automotive electrical schematics service information. The content includes but is not limited to the following: wiring diagrams, connector end views with wire pinouts, electrical component locator and wiring harness routing views, fuse block identification views and usage charts, master electrical component lists, and associated xml files. This position is required to produce accurate and complete service information that adheres to the OEM client requirements and concisely conveys the necessary technical information to the automotive technician. Service information may be published in multiple formats and may require interface with multiple clients both internal and external. Regardless of deliverable or style, this position must ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks, while maintaining compliance to both corporate and customer quality standards, procedures, policies and expectations.



  • Accurately research and update wiring diagram service manual content using client & engineering source data and supplied information
  • Work autonomously and independently in a remote work setting
  • Monitor the delivery timing of all assigned publications
  • Manage daily activities to ensure on-time completion of all deliverables
  • Follow current authoring procedures and processes
  • Resolve feedback from end users and other service manual authoring groups within timing metric
  • Perform internal quality checks and respond to external quality reviews
  • Follow-up on all client feedback and ensure the feedback is addressed in the manner consistent with the client expectations
  • Utilize procedures, records, tools, equipment, facilities, others as appropriate
  • Provide updated project information relating to project schedules, scope of content and project changes
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the subject matter experts the client identifies
  • Perform validation of published information on vehicles or wiring harnesses supplied by client, at a local client facility.  Occasionally, travel to the manufacturing plant may be required.

Skills Required

  • Solid understanding of authoring tools and editors (XML/HTML and various graphic formats)
  • Experienced in creating structured/technical content with an automotive influence
  • Experience working under strict timelines, schedules and have the ability to multitask
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Effective attention to detail and follow-through methods
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat or other similar software
  • Working knowledge of Autotrol or other similar software
  • Positive Attitude and teamwork attributes
  • Effective work and task organizational skills


Education / Experience

  • BA/BS or equivalent professional experience in content creation and technical writing preferred
  • Automotive Technology Associates degree also acceptable
  • Approximately 3-5 years of related experience in creation of structured technical content preferred
  • Automotive technician experience preferred
  • Any level of previous experience in technical authoring for another OEM acceptable
