Title:  Sales Development Manager - Chicago, IL

Main purpose of the role


The Sales Development Manager (SDM) is a field-based business development and consulting position with the goal of growing incremental wholesale parts sales for one of our global automotive manufacturer clients (Client). The SDM is responsible for identifying new business opportunities with existing and prospective independent vehicle repair facility (wholesale) customers and building these contacts into sustaining relationships with the Client’s automotive dealerships. The SDM will also consult Client dealers on business and process improvements that help the Client dealers become more competitive in the market. This is a field position based in metro Chicago.


Candidate Responsibilities


  • Grow and support wholesale parts sales of Client dealers to independent repair shops
  • Actively call on independent repair facilities, from established customers to prospects, to achieve targets.
  • Identify new high sales potential Independent Repair Facility (IRF’s) customers
  • Conduct ongoing research to identify repair shops in the local market with high parts sales potential and convert these into key accounts of the dealer.
  • Build sustainable business relationships between repair shops and the Client dealer through targeted visits to repair shops.
  • Implement sales initiatives and actions to achieve sales targets and gain market share from the Aftermarket.
  • Analyze customer account data for order behavior and purchase volume. identifying those with the greatest sustainable revenue and growth potential.
  • Identify and categorize Retailers based upon levels of market engagement and potential.
  • Channel intelligence on customer, competitor and market to the dealer and program team.
  • Act as brand ambassador for Client when calling on repair shops.
  • Assess dealer’s wholesale parts program, process, and performance, and identify gaps or areas of improvement
  • Develop and maintain action plans with Client dealers to address identified gaps.
  • Conduct in-person training with dealer staff and independent shops on partslink24 (parts order platform) and process improvements.
  • Generate timely visit reports, schedules, and documents on effort and performance. 
  • Time spent in market is split between repair shop visits (70%) and retailers (30%)


Candidate Specification (essential)


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in business development with a large automotive parts wholesaler or retailer, OEM Aftersales department, or their dealer network’s Aftersales departments.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive parts and the Aftermarket sector.
  • Ability to increase OEM market share over wholesale parts distributors and retail groups.
  • Success in collaborating with independent mechanical and collision repairers.
  • Proven track record in sales and target achievement
  • Ability to broker deals at senior stakeholder level (dealer)
  • Strong communicator – verbal and written
  • Proven track record of working in a fastmoving, client focused environment
  • Well organized - understands how to manage multiple high priority projects
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
