Living & Studying in Detroit

I grew up in the Bay Tri-city area of Michigan.  Which is made up of Saginaw, Bay City and Midland.  I originally began my studies at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, before transferring back to Saginaw to attend Saginaw Valley State University in order to complete my Bachelors of Business Administration in Management.

“Although it wasn’t part of my original plan, I transferred back to my hometown for multiple reasons - but mainly because it’s a really great place to live.”

Starting My Career

After working various positions that provided services within the automotive industry I began to search for a career with growth opportunities.  I knew someone who was working at MSXI and she encouraged me to apply for a position.  I had an interview and the team hired me – they told me they chose me for my attitude. They wanted someone personable, positive and that had ambition to grow.

I started out in a Graphics Processor role, which day-to-day meant I was cataloging automotive parts. After 6 months I had my first promotion, followed by another career move just 2 months later!

“As the company began to grow I was approached about a newly created position that management had recommended me for.  I was definitely excited to be recognized for my contributions and work ethic.”

Thanks to growth at MSXI Flint facility I was able to act as a twist between a Recruiter and an Office Manager. It was a chance to help run a facility and learn additional areas of the operational side of the business.  From there, I moved into corporate recruiting which is what I’m doing now. I’ve been with the company for 5 years already and I am excited to see how my career path will continue to grow with MSXI!

I Wanted To Be Where Hard work Would Be Rewarded

I think what has kept me at MSXI is the autonomy to be creative in your workspace. There’s always a process, but how you achieve the end results is up to you.  Another important aspect is that in the areas that I have worked, I have always seen hard work be rewarded. Not to mention the flexibility that MSXI offers in work-life balance.
For me it wasn’t just about promotions. But, also the acknowledgement from management for a job well done.  Being the recipient of various Bravo Awards or having our team awarded incentives for the job we have completed have been great aspects of my positions.
For me it’s not just about money: to be successful, I think you have to view money as just an after effect. What’s important to me is knowing that I have challenged myself to be the best I can be, which is probably due to the combination of my family, upbringing and religious standpoint. It’s important that I push hard to be the best in whatever role I am in.

What I like most about the team here

What I like most about my role now is that I get to place the right candidates in the right position.  Which is a win-win for both the company and the individual.

“I like the Management support you are given when you show that you have Fire in the Belly (the ambition to grow)!”

Looking to the future, I hope I can progress into an Operations Management role and continue building my experience. In the meantime, I’m using online tools like Lynda.com to build my skills along with speaking to leaders in the business to help steer me in the right career path.
